A message from the webmaster....A few years ago, I was invited to join a small on-line group of very special people with the express purpose of putting a smile on the countenance of a fellow writer who had fallen gravely ill. I did not know this writer at the time, but I did not hesitate. After all, a compatriot was in need, and I would do what I could to help.
The prognosis was not good. Though we did not express it outwardly, to a one we worried that we were on a death watch. We who began with the name 'Friends of Liam' donned our bravest faces and undertook our mission with zest and aplomb, and in the process forged what will certainly turn out to be lifelong friendships.
That writer was Liam Jackson, a man I now consider a friend and brother in arms in this writing game, though I have yet to get together with him in what many netizens refer to as the 'meat-o-sphere.' I may have that opportunity in the not too distant future, for today he is hale and hearty. Was it the medical care he received? Or was it the healing power of laughter and fellowship we all shared in those dark days as his body struggled to turn away its insidious invader?
We'll never be able to prove it was our intervention that turned the tide, but I am as certain of it as I am of my own mortality. Heck, I kept coming back to 'FOL' as often as I could to see what silliness had ensued in my absence. I know Liam did. And when he started to add his own brand of clever wit to the mix, we knew the corner had been turned and we rejoiced in his victory.
And now there is another victory to celebrate. I have the honour and privilege of helping my friend mark the impending release of his first novel by looking after this website on his behalf. The novel is Offspring: The Call, the galvanizing first installment of a trilogy that will keep readers young and old up well into the night, unable to put it down. I invite you all to join Liam's young protagonist Sam on his epic journey, which begins October 3, 2006.
It's gonna be one heck of a ride.
